Sunday River, Maine, Keeps The Ski Season Going With Renewed Snowmaking Push

The late-season snowmaking effort came after a round of significant Northeast snowfall. In the past week, Sunday River has received 42 inches of snow, creating what the resort calls "some of the best conditions we've had all season."

Of course, that isn't a reason to retire the snow guns. By continuing snowmaking, Sunday River is demonstrating its commitment to offering the best skiing conditions possible through the end of the season. Currently, Sunday River plans to close on April 28th.

Today, the resort saw more spring-like conditions, with warm temperatures and slushy snow. The next round of snowfall could arrive early next month, but it's still a bit early to say definitively.

In related news, Sunday River will host a solar eclipse viewing party on April 8th. The eclipse, which won't be viewable from the resort for another 360 or so years (read: you should probably go if you're in the area), is set to arrive at 3:28 P.M. Sunday River will pause its lifts during the eclipse for safety reasons.
